Director of Accounting - Disbursements

This position is responsible for:



Directs the organization’s Disbursements function and ensures the accuracy of all related financial statements, processes and procedures. Recommends and implements strategies to meet current and future accounting and organizational needs. Develops policies and procedures that support organizational goals and holds business units accountable for compliance. Provides strategic guidance across departmental divisions to optimize efficiency and accuracy in business processes.





Specifically, duties include (but are not limited to):



Leads the development, implementation and enforcement of all policies and procedures related to the Disbursements function.

Designs, implements and enforces controls and procedures to ensure all disbursements are authorized and proper (safeguard of assets.)

Identifies and implements best practices and process improvements related to the Disbursements function.

Assesses and evaluates the current procure-to-pay process (inputs/processes/outputs), completes gap analysis (systems, processes, controls), identifies efficiency improvements in technology and best practices, prioritizes and drives process changes.

Responsible for ensuring all processes, controls and staff responsibilities are thoroughly documented and maintained.

Manages relationship with 3rd party freight processing vendor (rules engine/data exchange.)

Continuously strives to improve service levels to internal and external customers and suppliers.

Establishes relevant Key Performance Indicators for the Disbursements team and leads team to ensure expectations of quality and productivity are met.

Holds team and business accountable for compliance with corporate policies and procedures.

Collaborates with senior management to develop accounting goals and strategies to establish proactive, effective, and efficient business practices.
Identifies strategies for meeting and complying with legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting the Disbursements function.

Responsible for directing the development and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and reporting to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Company policy.

Identifies, analyzes and manages the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems and external events. Ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley guidelines—(specifically, SEC Rule 404).

Overseas special accounting studies and reports.

Engages in the typical responsibilities of a director requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and controlling.
Manages exempt and/or supervisory staff. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

job Requirements


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university and 8 - 10 years of related experience are required.


A minimum of 5 years in a formal leadership role is necessary.


Abilty to maintain credible and appropriate relationships with reporting staff.
