Director, Tax

We are currently seeking a Director of Tax for our Finance Department at our corporate headquarters in Edina, Minnesota.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Directs, plans and leads the tax department performing tax research, planning and compliance throughout the Company, including subsidiaries and independents. Ensures department files all tax returns and reports in an accurate and timely manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Directs the preparation, quality review and filing of federal, state and other income tax returns.
- Directs, plans and accountable for tax planning initiatives designed to reduce the overall tax case disbursement and reported expense.
- Directs preparation of income tax provisions, estimated tax rate and other footnote information to be included in the Company’s SEC filings.
- Ensures that appropriate tax internal controls surround the tax function and that they are properly adhered to for SOX 404 compliance.
- Recommends accounting and record retention practices for tax compliance.
- Notifies management of administrative and court rulings, regulations and legislative activities which have a material effect on the Company's status.
- Develops and maintains relationships with taxing authorities, revenue agents, and officers through audits and any subsequent appeals.
- Provides tax advice for acquisition, disposition and merger transactions including tax due diligence, contract review and tax structuring.
- Researches and keeps the Tax Department current on new federal or state tax laws and tax accounting developments, including FAS 109 and Sarbanes-Oxley issues. Assess risk profile of tax filing positions.
- Performs staff management and administrative duties of recruitment, training, performance evaluation and development.
- Manages staffing and budgetary requirements and sets department performance standards.
REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax or related field.
- 15+ years tax experience including 5-9 years of supervisory/managerial experience. Experience with multi-state, multi-unit tax returns, FAS 109. Prior public tax accounting experience a plus.
- CPA/MBA/MBT a plus.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, oral and written communication, organizational, attention to detail, prioritization, problem solving and analytical skills.
