Director, Planning and Budgeting

The Ohio Casualty Insurance Company is hiring for a Director of Planning and Budgeting to direct the corporate planning and budgeting process and assigned staff. Oversee and coordinate the consolidation of department level budgets as well as input from various planning staff and senior management into a comprehensive operating plan. Direct a variety of projects and resources that may involve multiple, complex, or sensitive issues.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSDesigns and directs planning processes and reports so that operating plans can be reviewed by senior management and the board of directors. Understands the organizational structure and principal strategies, including changes in such, so that the operating plan includes all relevant operational and financial information. Communicates with planning managers throughout the company and presents preliminary operating plans and recommendations to senior management.
Facilitates and leads discussions that align department and division planning decisions to the attainment of corporate strategies as set by executive management.
Plans for activities of multiple units, coordinates resources, and communicates requirements of planned activities. Identifies resources needed and communicates to higher management of any necessary changes. Identifies areas for improvement through new technology, process and workflow improvements, improved internal controls, or production of higher quality work product.
Makes staffing, compensation, resource allocation, and expense decisions within units.
Facilitates communication and work coordination among units managed and related units in department. Represents units managed and related units in meetings, ensuring that pertinent accounting issues are addressed or referred to proper areas. Reviews preparation of all reports, financial statements, and analysis, except for routine items delegated to supervisors or staff in units.
Interprets financial results and variances from plan/budget, and advises department management and senior management of results and related issues or potential areas of impact.
Reviews projections of financial data to show effects of proposed changes impacting income, cash flow, or financial condition. Prepares communications regarding projections, impacts, and related issues or options.
Monitors workflow within and among units to ensure effective servicing of customers while maintaining efficiency and avoiding unnecessary duplication of effort.
Provides technical guidance to assigned staff, including broad issues and interdependence among units and tasks. Accountable for setting standards, guidelines, and controls for decision making within assigned units.Performs supervisory responsibilities, including but not limited to, managing employee performance, coaching employees, communicating with employees, adhering to company policies and programs, empowering employees, responding to employee concerns, and creating a positive work environment (if position includes supervision of other employees).
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting (significant related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree); MBA, preferred
Previous supervisory or management experienceHigh level of financial acumenPrevious experience in financial planning, budgeting and forecastingAttentive to detail and able to perform detailed financial analysisAbility to multi task with a variety of high priority projectsGood organization skillsAdvanced knowledge of spreadsheet software; basic knowledge of word processing software
Expanded knowledge of insurance industry and company's position within the industry
Demonstrated knowledge of financial issues and economic impact beyond technical accounting knowledge
