Director Data Strategy/Taxonomy

Purpose:
Director - Data Strategy & Taxonomy

Tribune Interactive is actively seeking a Director Data Strategy and Taxonomy to join the Product Development team and contribute to the consumer experience and future success of our news and information websites. This role is focused on working with our product managers to create a vision for how data can/should contribute to the customer experience on our websites and formulate a strategy for bringing that vision to reality. This team member will work closely with key stakeholders and various team members throughout the organization to gain a thorough understanding of consumer and business needs and work cross functionally to determine and implement solutions that meet the needs of our consumers and deliver on our business goals.

Responsibilities:
Work with key stakeholders to establish a vision for how our data can/should contribute to our user experience.
oIn a variety of ways and for a variety of reasons, customers count on the Tribune Interactive properties to keep them informed. As our products evolve and we see more and more ways to continue to meet those customer needs in a manner that differentiates us from our competition it is clear that how we manage our data is core to achieving our customer goals.
oCollaborate with business units across the company to create metadata standards and to increase adoption of a standard data taxonomy

Based on that understanding, and within the context of our products, create the customer facing data strategy for Tribune Interactive.
oDefine how data can enable us to provide a differentiated customer experience.
oWork with key stakeholders to obtain approval and buy-in for that strategy.

Translate the strategy into actionable requirements for development
oMap out the data relationships that we need from a business perspective
oLead the efforts to determine the business requirements

Own the Data strategy going forward
oOur business is growing at a rapid pace and will be in a constant state of change, this will require the data strategy to continue to evolve.
oDevelop and maintain data taxonomies to deliver focused, relevant information.
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements/Qualifications
Broad understanding of the web, dynamic data-driven web sites and associated technologies.
Strong background in the fields of information classification and the use of metadata to drive content delivery.
Knowledge of data indexing, classification theory and practices for organizing information to facilitate access and information retrieval.
Familiarity with database development, search technologies, Web services, content and asset management.
A minimum of 5 years experience on large-scale web sites for an established, heavily trafficked, consumer facing web site.
A history of showing strong leadership skills
Ability to gather business requirements and input from multiple sources, synthesize input into a vision, visualize internet based solutions, lead a collaborative team process to create solutions that meet business and consumer needs, obtain buy-in and facilitate change.
Exceptional analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
Comfortable communicating with and taking input from a variety of people, including senior management.
Knowledge of marketing and online branding, common web and interface conventions and web site design.
Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with a high level of service orientation.
Detail oriented with excellent organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with a range of appropriate software tools.
Must be able to work independently and as a member of a larger team.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
