Director Commercial Credit Risk Review

The Director of Commercial Credit Risk Review is responsible for the development, implementation and leadership of the Commercial and Capital Markets Credit Risk Review Program (CRR). Primary components of the CRR Program include ensuring the integrity of the Bancorp's commercial dual rating model and commercial credit risk management process through the independent monitoring and assessment by CRR of assigned risk grade and accrual status accuracy; conducting compliance reviews with Bancorp commercial loan policies; challenging the process used to identify and document commercial loan impairment/charge-offs; owning the commercial loan impairment and charge-off projection process; and critically evaluating the accuracy and effectiveness of commercial risk management processes throughout the Bancorp. This position is a key leadership role within the Enterprise Risk Management Division, reporting to the Chief Credit Risk Officer of the Bancorp.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as a role model for the Bancorp Credit Risk Management process.

Demonstrates technical proficiency in commercial and capital markets credit risk topics. This includes keeping abreast of general economic conditions, industry trends, and product specific issues.

Understands pertinent regulatory issues and their relative impact on commercial and capital markets credit risk. Demonstrates thorough understanding of these issues and ensures the dissemination of this information in accordance with expectations of key Bancorp constituents (i.e., Regulatory Agencies, Board of Directors, Senior Management, external auditors). Maintains primary responsibility for formal/informal communication of Commercial CRR activities/results to Senior Management throughout the Bancorp on a periodic basis.

Develops and leads a consultative but independent Commercial Credit Risk Review team that works with Relationship Bankers and Credit Administration to create a positive business relationship where information is freely exchanged and CRR is actively sought out as a trusted consultative business partner.

Ensures the timely, consistent preparation, content, accuracy, and timing of reports issued by CRR. Develops a system of accountability for CRR observations and recommendations. Solicits responses from appropriate areas of the Bank that resolve CRR's concerns and mitigate overall risk to the Bancorp.

Serves as a thought leader for the Commercial Credit Risk Management process.

Demonstrates a sound knowledge of the Bancorp's dual-credit risk rating models. Develops work programs that review the accuracy of assigned risk grades.

Serves as final arbitrator on grading and accrual status decisions.

Possesses and exhibits a detailed working knowledge of the Commercial Loan Policies of Fifth Third Bancorp. In addition, understands the organizational structure, key management personnel, business strategies, and primary risk management objectives of the Commercial Division.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and manage the Commercial Credit Risk staff to ensure optimal performance in meeting Credit Risk Management's goals and the objectives of contributing to the Bancorp continued success in the Financial Services Industry.

Focus on continuous improvement for optimizing team performance

Develop technical and leadership skills for all team members while customizing education needs for individuals within the career development framework

Retain the highest caliber professional staff, while minimizing turnover

Aggressively prepare all levels of staff for future opportunities, by identifying challenging work assignments, mentoring and education programs to give employees exposure to proactive enterprise-wide problem solving.

Develop and maintain ongoing two-way timely and clear performance feedback to maintain healthy, proactive work relationships.

Recruit talented, motivated individuals to the Bancorp as well as to the Enterprise Risk Management Division.

Demonstrate personal development through mastery of the Bancorp's leadership education initiatives.
Job RequirementsMINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Bachelor degree in a business related field required. Finance or Accounting degree preferred.

Minimum 15 years of commercial lending and/or commercial credit related experience. Commercial Credit Risk Review/Loan Review management experience required.

Sound leadership and excellent interpersonal and communications skills required.

Solid project management and presentation skills required.

Incumbent must possess strong facilitation skills, be adept at building client relationships at all levels and possess proven ability to develop a staff.

Able to consistently display a positive business presence with management and regulatory personnel. Exercises sound judgment in decision-making commensurate with experience.

Proficient with MS-Windows and other related PC applications, Possess the desire and ability to learn mainframe applications, and automated data analysis tools and techniques. E.O.E., M/F/D/V
