Credit Union Collections Specialist
Classification: Full Time Compensation: $55000 to $68000 per year This position performs carious duties to ensure prompt collection of payments and assist members in establishing alternative payment arrangements.
Collect by phone, in person, and/or by mail delinquent loans, over-limit accounts, returned loan payments, returned deposit items and documenting results of contact.
Perform all skip-tracing functions as necessary.
Follow-up on all payment arrangement, consumer credit counseling, bankrupt accounts, notices of lien sales on all impounded vehicles and refer members for debt counseling, as necessary.
Assist members with payment workout plans, recommend and submit modifications and extension for approval.
Responsible for assigning and following up accounts for repossessions, foreclosure, small claims assignments, attorney assignments and collection agency assignments.
Prepare paperwork for security liquidation and collect deficit balances after sale.
Represent the Credit Union in bankruptcy cases to obtain and record judgments, and take appropriate post-judgment remedial action.
Prepare and monitor bankruptcy Reaffirmation Agreements and Proofs of Claims.
Recommend and prepare Branch loan charge-offs for review and subsequent approval by the Board.
Assist member with processing of credit insurance, MBI and GAP claims, documenting results.
Research and recommend solutions to member account problems.
Respond to all consumer disputes originated at credit reporting agencies immediately upon receipt of dispute.
Assume responsibility for providing quality service to members including cross selling Credit Union products and services.
Support departmental activities and perform other duties, as directed by management.Education and experience required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance or the equivalent level of education. Normally requires four years of current and progressive experience in collections and regulatory training, preferably in a financial institution.Additional requirements: Excellent communications skills both written and verbal and a good working knowledge of computers. Knowledge of the Fair Debt and Collection and Fair Credit Reporting regulations and must pass an annual in-house recertification. Notary helpful.
