Controller / CFO - Hospital
Matteson Partners is a retained executive search firm. Our client is one of the most prestigious health care providers in the United States, owning and operating several health care centers in the Southeast. Its physicians and surgeons have been responsible for some of the most significant innovations and treatments in health care.
Preferred candidates will currently be in the role of a Controller or Finance Director in a health care organization, preferably a smaller for-profit hospital, with the ability and desire to move to the next level.
CPA and public accounting experience are HIGHLY preferred.
The Opportunity
We are evaluating candidates for the position of Chief Financial Officer at one of our client’s major health care centers. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing, directing and coordinating the facility’s financial affairs and meeting the financial service needs of its practice administrators. Main functional responsibilities will be to manage a multifaceted financial service organization; provide financial advice and council on a wide variety of financial management issues; and actively manage the overall financial direction and performance of the facility and its subsidiary joint ventures and/or satellite operations. This must be accomplished in a spirit of teamwork, collaboration, and collegiality.
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
•Current role as a Controller or CFO in a health care organization is a must.
•Ideal candidates will have public accounting experience followed by progressive experience in a hospital, preferably a smaller “for profit” organization
•Balanced understanding of Financial Operations & Accounting procedures
•Budget formulation, implementation, and presentation
•Leadership experience in a highly-matrix environment
•Metric mentality with a thorough understanding of the supporting financial drivers
•Information system assessment, evaluation, selection, and implementation experience
•Ability to formulate, articulate, and implement financial programs to support the organization’s strategic vision
•Excellent communication skills
•Very strong academic credentials
•Impeccable professional references
•Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance
•Graduate degree and/or CPA highly preferred
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Organizational Planning Processes
•Contribute in the ongoing organizational planning processes; creates financial plans and goals that project future capital needs and operating performance
•Recommends management interventions necessary to achieve financial targets
•Creates and maintains annual financial planning and budgeting system
•Presents organizational budgets for review and approval
Staffing & Resource Management
•Recruit, retain, and develop financial management staff to meet organization’s needs
•Manage financial resources by supervising and coordinating the functions of financial planning and general accounting
•Establish financial tools that equip operating divisions to provide timely and focused oversight of fiscal resources
Financial, Accounting, and Cash Management
•Provide for organization and maintenance of an effective system of accounting throughout organization
•Ensure the consolidation of financial reports, management reporting, and recommendations of actions to achieve firm targets
•Incorporate industry standards and benchmark data into financial management tools and financial reporting
•Prepare periodic reports outlining the organization’s financial position; provide proactive recommendations and actions necessary to achieve strong financial performance
•Provide education and counsel on general and specific issues that may have a financial impact on the organization
•Maintain timely, accurate, and understandable reports on all aspects of financial performance in support of operating divisions
•Manage the cash flow projections and funds transfers within the organization
Organizational Compliance
•Develop policies and procedures for the Financial Services Department and ensure compliance
•Assure that the organization and subsidiary financing and refinancing is in compliance with bond documents and tax requirements
•Prepare and effect timely filing of federal, state, and other financial reports as required
•Actively and supportively engage with internal auditing to ensure strong internal controls
Relationship Management
•Maintain strong working relationships with appropriate external parties
•Represent organization and executive leadership on all financial management matters
•Assist at the direction of executive leadership in making presentations and financial recommendations to the Board of Directors and other Boards as requested
