Collections Specialist - Accounts Receivable

Position Main Objective:
Conducts activities necessary to notify or locate customers with delinquent accounts and to assure that payments are received.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Prepares form letters/statements to clients regarding their account. Follow-ups with clients by telephone or others regarding overdue payments.
2.Works with distributors when necessary to obtain payments due.
3.Mails form letters to customers to encourage payment of delinquent accounts.
4.Confers with customer by telephone in attempt to determine reason for overdue payment, reviewing terms of sales, service, or credit contract with customer.
5.Records information about financial status of customer and status of collection efforts.
6.Sorts and files correspondence.
7.Posts amount paid to customer account from lock box and credits.
8.Grants extensions of credit or credit hold on delinquent accounts.
9.Notifies credit department if customer fails to respond.
10.Prepares sales/bonus calculations, maintains files on contracts, and identifies action to be taken.
11.Completes an annual consignment inventory count on all distributor sites balancing and correcting quantity and lot numbers in system.
REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
High school education, training in accounts receivable practices.
2-4 or more years in general administrative or accounting activities.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Knowledge of practices and principles in administering account receivable functions. Ability to coordinate activities with Customer Service and other departments.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.

Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publications that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
