Chief Information Security Officer

The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is responsible for the design, implementation and testing of all components of the University's information technology security architecture. The CISO will establish and enforce the University's information technology security policies, standards and guidelines. Manage the development of an enterprise-wide security architecture in consultation with appropriate school and department-based leadership. Perform other duties as assigned.


Bachelor's degree and at least eight years progressively responsible information technology experience in a corporate, government or university setting, the majority of which should be concentrated in a security-related management position that includes budgeting and supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:
*One or more of the following industry-standard certifications (Certified Business Continuity Planner/CBCP, Certified Information Systems Security Professional/CISSP, or System Security Certified Practitioner/SSCP).
*Demonstrated ability to interface with the full range of university constituencies (senior management, faculty, students, vendor partners).
*Strong leadership skills and the ability to be effective in a decentralized environment.
*Demonstrated understanding of network and information technology standards as they relate to security issues and the continuous development of a secure University information technology environment.
*Demonstrated understanding of legacy system (20th century, mainframe/workstation-based) security issues and their interface with present-day successor architecture (web-based client-server systems).
*Managing data security within individual departments through the training of local data stewards as well as creating emergency response teams within business units and across the University.
*Demonstrated ability to serve as principal university contact both internally (among peer university administrators) and externally in the event of any emergency involving information technology or data security.

Preferred:
*Master's degree.
