Business Process Analyst

We are looking for a top notch Business Process Analyst to join a fast-paced, aggressive-growth company. The primary responsibility for this role will be to work with subject matter experts in the various fulfillment sectors of our industry, primarily to elicit requirements for enhancements of existing systems and, secondarily to collaborate with business and technical personnel to help vet ideas for new systems. Candidate will be responsible for creating process diagrams that augment the functional requirements. These process diagrams will be used by the development team as the starting point for their implementation. Candidate will be responsible for assessing and describing operational aspects of businesses. This includes business processes, organizational culture and structure, and other resources. Candidates are expected to be actively involved in helping to educe points of automation, as well as to analyze potential points of business process simplification and improvement along the way. Candidate will be involved with documenting existing business processes within the organization and recommend improvements.

Experience with workflow and/or business process management is required as the systems to be built are inexorably linked to said frameworks. When translating business requirements into functional specifications, documentation should be prepared in a way that leverages and easily maps back to the various aspects of workflow management systems. Familiarity with business process standards such as BPMN, BPEL & JSR 207 is a good to have. The Business Process Analyst needs to be familiar with techniques for organizational design, process improvement, technology assimilation and process modeling.

To that end, candidates MUST have a background in software development. Some of the tools/ technologies that the candidate must have used are: J2EE, O2R mapping, Rules Engine. UML modeling experience is a must have. Familiarity with these tools and methodologies are critical to the ability to provide the appropriate deliverables that software engineers can run with, while minimizing the interactions back with the analyst.

Developers are currently working to deliver an integration platform consisting of an ESB, a BPM Engine, and a Rules Engine. This platform communicates with, and coordinates, legacy system modules to provide decoupled, composite services. The operating environment is a mix of Microsoft and Java platforms, and relies heavily on XML and declarative frameworks including Hibernate, Struts, and Spring. The requirements process is centered around business process modeling. Experience with these technologies would be a plus.

Candidates must possess excellent communication, superior writing skills (samples will be required), and are critical thinkers. These positions will require a balance between independent work and team play.

Short-term Responsibilities:
Learn our business domain by using creative measures to independently expose oneself to the various aspects of our industry

Effectively collaborate with subject matter experts in the different fulfillment departments, as well as with IT, to help bridge the communication gap and significantly reduce the information barrier

Work with subject matter experts to elicit business requirements. Effectively (using background knowledge of the software industry) and concisely translate them down into detailed functional requirements and/or process definitions

Create process diagrams to supplement the functional specifications.

Long-term Responsibilities:

Work with existing software engineers to understand how current systems work

Document existing processes using process modeling tools

Work with development team on process execution

Reverse engineer existing systems to document requirements / business processes that would have originally generated those systems in their current form

What we are looking for:

1-3 years of experience as a junior-level (or higher) business analyst

Ability to mediate between development team and internal client in the design and use of applications.

5-6 years as a previous mid-to-senior-level software engineer / developer using BPMS systems

Knowledge of the entire software development lifecycle

First-hand experience creating a new software system, from inception to deployment

Pluses: any experience with ESB-related products and/or business rules engines
