Deloitte has an opening for an Associate - GIS Technician, to support the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) team within the Petroleum Services Group, part of the firm's world-wide Energy Practice. For nearly 30 years Petroleum Services (PSG) has been a leading provider of decision support tools, such as our PetroView® GIS, and market intelligence to the upstream petroleum sector. Its professional team of industry trained personnel have geoscience, petroleum engineering, economics, commercial and specialist IT backgrounds and are located primarily in London, Houston, Moscow, Rio and Singapore. This position will be based in Houston, TX.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Assist in consultancy projects for the upstream oil & gas
sector by lending IT / GIS expertise, for example, extending GIS capabilities for clients by customization;
- The loading of regional spatial datasets into both enterprise and personal geodatabases (MapInfo, ArcGIS, ArcSDE);
- Validating and maintaining GIS data from various sources and formats - establishing metadata, spatial integrity and precision of data;
undertake localized map production in coordination with the GIS team;
- Provide technical support to clients in all aspects of the PetroView® product suite and the underlying GIS platforms (MapInfo and ArcGIS); and
- Helping to raise the profile of PSG's capabilities through client support, dataset production and marketing events/industry conferences.Qualifications and requirements include the following:
- Bachelors degree in Geography/Geology/GIS/Cartography or an equivalent vocational qualification;
- 0 to 2 years professional experience;
- Possess strong MapInfo and ESRI skills and
confident working within challenging technical environments;
- Previous experience working with ArcSDE and geo-processing spatial data, with a strong attention to detail;
- Experience with database related software;
- Exposure to the upstream oil & gas industry will be a benefit, however not essential;
- Strong client focus, technical awareness, communication and IT skills are essential;
- Ability to work independently or as part of a group, strong written and verbal communication skills and professional demeanor are required; and
