Assistant Director, Payroll Services

Applications are invited for the Assistant Director of Payroll Services position in the University Payroll department. The Assistant Director directs and manages operations and services administered by the Payroll Service Centers at all campus locations that includes: ensuring inquiries regarding payroll transactions, pay checks, and compliance forms are received and completed for processing in a timely manner; developing training programs/materials to ensure managerial and support staff are knowledgeable about payroll matters and can provide effective assistance to the University community; and overseeing payroll business transactions to ensure their compliance with University policies/procedures and with federal and state regulations/guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree; Payroll Professional certification preferred.

Other required qualifications include:
demonstrated managerial and supervisory skills to develop and maintain systems for service delivery
Knowledge about federal and state laws applicable to payroll-related issues
Training in payroll taxation and non-resident alien reporting and taxation
Knowledge about general accounting principles and practices
Knowledge about Banner HR/Pay and Finance
Ability to analyze payroll-related transactions and make recommendations based upon interpretations
Highly developed written and verbal communications skills to effectively present information and respond to colleagues and others seeking guidance and/or clarification about issues related to operations and services
Demonstrated teamwork skills to address and resolve difficult and complex issues/problems
Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Excellent problem-solving skills and organizational/multi-tasking skills
Ability to produce accurate, detail-oriented work while meeting stringent deadlines
Demonstrated creativity in exercising independent judgment and discretion in the performance of assigned responsibilities Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
