Legg Mason's Mutual Fund Administration area is currently seeking a Assistant Controller for its New York, New York location. An integral member of the Mutual Fund Administration department, the Assistant Controller will oversee a team of professionals as well as take on a key role in Fund Administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibility for the daily oversight of mutual fund accounting agents, custodians and transfer agents, including the calculation and delivery of accurate daily NAVs.
Responsible for the preparation of financial statements to shareholders, regulators and stock exchanges, as applicable.
Budget and monitor revenues, expenses and cash flows across the business.
Responsible for reporting the financial position and regulatory status of investment companies at various Boards of Directors' meetings.
Periodically analyze and report on the profitability of products. Review dividend projections for managed dividend products. Review SEC Registration statements and provide supporting information. Review SEC Form N-SARs and certify and under Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Review the calculation of 24(f)-2 payments to the SEC. Randomly review work papers, bank reconciliation & general ledger reports.
Oversee and review fund start-ups, mergers and liquidations.
Review wash sales and other pertinent tax schedules.
Review and comment on more complicated corporate actions.
Perform special projects and requests from various Portfolio Managers, Independent Accountants, Legal, Marketing & Product Development.
Monitor third party relationships, execute and/or renew contracts and establish minimum service levels and reporting requirements, as appropriate.
Manage a staff of professionals. Hire, develop and promote managers across business disciplines.
Develop and implement policies and procedures consistent with company objectives.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration; MBA/CPA preferred.
Minimum combination of 10 years experience in public or private Mutual Fund Administration.
Minimum of 5 years experience managing a mid to large staff.
Experience interacting with senior level management and human resources professionals on a variety of tasks, such as: hiring, performance appraisals, budgeting, headcount, and compensation.
