Accounting Research Lead

Job Summary The successful candidate will:
- Monitor and analyze emerging market activities and trends, including effects of proposed changes to accounting standards and interpretations, and advise management of the potential implications
- Analyze impact of proposed changes to accounting standards and regulations
- Develop company position on proposals and communicate to standard-setting/regulatory organizations
- Serve as advisor/consultant to support segment controllers and their staffs with application of accounting requirements to complex transactions such as SFAS 133 and FIN 46R
- Serve as consultant to operating companies/business unit controllers regarding financial implications of proposed or new transactions, including development of accounting guidelines and controls to ensure transactions are in accordance with GAAP, SEC and other regulatory guidelines
- Coordinate implementation of new accounting and financial reporting requirements to ensure consistent application throughout the organization
- Research accounting issues, identify alternatives and provide recommendations to management
- Perform quality assurance reviews of financial statements and reports
- Serve as advocate of company accounting policy and practices before external parties
- Serve as advisor to internal organization
- May act as team lead on implementation of accounting and financial reporting requirements

This role is a high visibility position with excellent growth potential and is responsible for more complex activities associated with monitoring, interpreting and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) such as SFAS 133 and FIN 46R.
REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities The successful candidate will have the following:
- Broad knowledge of GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
- Working knowledge of derivatives and SFAS 133 preferred.
- Ability to manage projects/tasks independently, including confidence in one’s own capacity to develop interpretive conclusions and to make decisions and recommendations
- Creative analytical skills with ability to anticipate, identify and resolve complex accounting issues
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey complex concepts to various audiences
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and demanding business environment

Education, Certifications & Other Qualifications:
A Bachelors degree in Accounting with 5-7 years experience highly preferred. Energy industry experience and Big 4 public accounting experience preferred. CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
