Accounting Policy Manager

The Safeco Controllers department is currently seeking an Accounting Policy Manager who will be the primary resource for all accounting policies established at Safeco. This position's responsibilities include:


Maintaining current knowledge of GAAP guidance developed and issued by FASB, EITF, and the AICPA;
Elevating appropriate guidance to the affected business areas and write Accounting Policy Statements with input from the affected function;
Researching accounting guidance to incorporate the relevant guidance to Accounting Policies;
Moving written policies through review, sign-offs by the Business Unit and Controller.In addition, the position requires the interpretation of applicable guidance to understand potential procedural and financial impact to Safeco.This position will write Accounting Position Statements, as needed, for specific issues that arise within Safeco operations for internal use and external auditors.Candidates will also have an opportunity to identify gaps from GAAP accounting, answer questions from various business units and participate on cross-functional company teams, as required (i.e. purchase vs. lease decisions, review cash flow analysis, company approvals, etc). Able to help train others in finance and control concepts and techniques when needed.


Seeking great candidates with:
A four year degree in Accounting or Finance, 3 to 5 years of Public Accounting experience
A strong knowledge of FASB, GAAP and a CPA is required.
Prefer candidates with solid accounting or audit experience in public accounting.
Project management experience is preferred. Have a strong understanding of GAAP policy-setting bodies, accounting guidance, financial statements and internal control concepts and techniques.
Identify areas affected by changes in accounting guidance and have a basic understanding of process improvement concepts.
A quick learner with a passion for increasing your knowledge of technical accounting.
Establish and maintain effective relationships and communicate effectively with people from different departments and at varying levels of the company.
