The Accounting Manager for Residential Capital Group’s (RCG) financing accounting is responsible for the more complex activities associated with maintaining a complete and accurate accounting in the general ledger for the mortgage loans held for investment and the related bonds in an asset backed securitization. Will manage 3 other professional accountants to ensure transparency, accuracy, completeness, timeliness and compliancy of the accounting and reporting related to the financing portfolio as well as the professional development of the direct reports.


Essential Accountabilities:
Manage a group of three accountants
Oversee the accounting of the financing portfolio which includes recording the securitization transaction and all accounting related to the mortgage loans held for investment and related bonds
Ensure SOX controls evolve as the processes evolve and the identified controls are working as intended
Work with various project groups to enhance the current accounting processes to make them more efficient while keeping the accounting accurate
Work with GAAP policy group to ensure the accounting for new transactions is correct
Work with the financial planning and forecasting group to explain and support the monthly financial results of the pipeline
Review the monthly accounting of the pipeline group to ensure completeness and accuracy
Review the quarterly reporting used for the corporate footnote disclosures, corporate tax reporting, and regulatory compliance reporting to ensure completeness and accuracy
Continued education of mortgage loan accounting
Oversee and review the monthly account reconciliations


Requirements:
Bachelor Degree in Accounting
MBA, CPA or CMA desired
7+ Years related experience in the financial services industry
Proven process improvement initiative
Analytical reporting on financial data
Strong spreadsheet and database query skills
Prior management experience
Knowledge of FAS65, FAS91, FAS140, FAS156 desired
Understanding of mortgage industry and mortgage backed securities trading, processes, procedures structures, and terminology helpful
Prior mortgage loan experience desired
Strong Excel spreadsheet knowledge including built in functions and formulas
Working knowledge of Access databases in particular building queries and linking to data warehouse tables
US GAAP and ability to research and apply FASB pronouncements
PeopleSoft: including processing of journal entries to the general ledger, running and building PeopleSoft Nvision reports, and running and building PeopleSoft queries desired
Hyperion Essbase Retrieve experience desired
Ability to manage and motivate a group of accounting
Team player willing to participate in the daily responsibilities
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, negotiating, listening)
