Accounting Analyst - CNE Metro North (New York City)

Job Summary: Summary of Responsibilities, Essential Duties & Expectations:Performs a broad range of Accounting and Finance functions. These functions include activities that are related to Financial Closes and Financial Forecasting Activities. Financial Close Responsibilities: prepare journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and operate the accounting system, analyzing financial data and operating results and preparing reports for management. Financial Forecasting Responsibilities: assist in preparing periodic financial forecasts, prepare reports showing variances in forecasts, and ensure that corporate finance financial forecasting requirements are met. This position supports Constellation NewEnergy (MetroNorth Office) (CNE) which markets electricity to commercial and industrial customers in New York and New Jersey. Primary responsibilities are as follows: Analyzes business transactions, and prepares journal entries to record the transactions.
Maintains the accuracy of the general ledger and related financial records, and reconciles supporting details to general-ledger balances.
Operates the computerized accounting system.
Closes the books in accordance with systems and financial-reporting deadlines.
Assist in analyzing financial and operating results, and preparing reports to management analyzing financial and operating performance.
Assist in preparing quarterly and annual budgets for a multi-year planning period in accordance with corporate finance guidelines
Prepare reports that analyze and compare variances in financial forecasts and budgets.
Participates in the design and implementation of accounting systems, financial forecasts and control procedures.
Conducts special projects as requested by management.
Provides information as needed for internal and external audits.Qualifications (Experience, Competencies, Skills, Education):The Analyst position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance/business or a related discipline.
Must possess at least 1-2 years relevant accounting/finance work experience and experience with automated accounting systems. Strong spreadsheet/database skills are a plus.
