Accountant

This is a full-time, permanent position for the department Student Fiscal Services, Student Accounting and includes a full benefits package. The position is responsible for preparing and monitoring complex automated and/or manual reports which track activity in financial aid programs, scholarship programs, and Student Accounting clearing accounts. Salary: $2,530 - $3,208

Reports To: Fiscal Analyst 4, Student Accounting Supervisor

Hours of Work: M-F: 8:00AM – 5:00PM

Essential Functions:
Assist higher level accountants in analyzing fiscal data and preparing complex automated and/or manual reports which track and balance: financial aid programs, scholarship programs, Student Accounting clearing accounts, quarterly tuition and waiver, direct lending disbursements, work study programs and Federal and state grant programs.
Calculate cash amounts to request and work with financial aid and loans departments.
Prepare adjusting journal entries to maintain ledger accounts and correct errors.
Develop procedures to establish efficient record keeping and/or improve current operations.
Perform reconciliations of various funds and accounts and maintain detailed work papers to backup the reconciliation process.
Process requests for detail codes.
Monitor daily production processes, run by Student Accounts, and prepare daily accounts receivable balancing reports. Work with other areas to resolve discrepancies.
Review and interpret regulations affecting the aid programs and inform supervisor of potential changes which could impact processes.
Assist in support to campus departments who are recording General Receivable billings in the Banner System.

REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications
In order to be considered for this position you must meet all required qualifications and specifically address them in your cover letter/resume.
Bachelors Degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, economics, or closely related field or
4 years experience as a fiscal technician or accounting assistant AND 18 quarter or 12 semester hours of accounting, auditing, or budgeting
Ability to work independently
Strong attention to detail and ability to process large volumes of work with accuracy.


Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in Excel
Knowledge of complex databases, i.e. Banner
Higher Education or government experience
Ability to work well with diverse groups.
